Dungeon Keeper 2 music
« on: October 26, 2012, 11:22:04 AM »

I've always loved the music in Dungeon Keeper 2 - especially the fact that it reacts so well to what happens in the game. This led me to an idea: why not recreate that part as a standalone app? Basically, it would use the original files and play them as the game would. So, what I have now are some .sdt and .map files. I managed to extract the pieces of tracks inside the .sdt files, but I suspect the .map files actually encode whatever logic the game uses to select what to play. I'd love to know how those files work.

So, is there anyone who could help me with that? If no, I'll probably try to decipher the files myself, or just make my own logic for selecting which bits to play... I'd love if it could be as close to the original as possible though :)

Thanks for you kind words :)

I'm afraid it's such a long time ago now, I can't remember the system used to play the tracks. I remember the .sdt files as they were simply the audio files, but the map files which contained the playback events..... well.... ???

Unfortunately I don't have any of the DK2 stuff, and I know the Mac's with that data, and the DAT tapes with the music were thrown away by EA after I left :(

I used to do that. Make an ISO file and turn it into MP3.
