Fruity Loops is fine. Lots of people are using it to a professional standard, and Omnisphere (at least Omnisphere 2) is certainly a professional product - great sounds, easy to program and some of the lock features when searching are awesome.

Where do you start. Load up Fruity Loops and have a play. That's how I started with Trackers back in the late 80's. For sure I was learning violin, and you could argue that music is in my family so perhaps it's something we're switched on to, but simply have a play. Studying music can help, for some people.

I've been using Cubase ever since it first came out on the Atari ST - and still use it on PC now. I've not much experience with other sequencers and it can be a personal thing, so the best thing is to get to a shop who will demo the various packages for you and let you spend some time playing with them. You really need to do that before spending £500 on software - you may not like one in particular.

That sounds amazing, Mark. What software did you use?

Thanks very much. I did all the sequencing in Cubase. Some tracks, like Erethism, I stuck to the 4 channel rule of the Amiga, some I didn't. as for sounds. There's C64 with MSSIAH cartridge, QuadraSID, Chipsounds and probably other stuff I've forgotten about now.

The next album I'm working on at the moment is primarily using the InSIDious Reaktor instrument by Mike Clarke.

It's starting to look more likely now. With the chiptune album out of the way I quite fancy it. Mind you the F1 2015/2016/2016 are all electronic - I just don't have complete control over their direction.

You have a great taste, Mark. Your music makes me high. I get so much pleasure with your tracks. You're wonderful. Keep writing your tracks.
Excellent!! Thanks so much for saying so :)

Welcome Viki, nice to have you! I must remember to keep this forum up to date as quite a bit has happened in the past year, oops!

Thanks :) Been a busy boy thought, F1 2015, Overlord and D/Generation HD last year.

:) Thank you. I'm glad I did the re-recording as the mixes were definitely an improvement. However, I feel I could improve them a lot more now (again) - such is the art of learning to mix music.

The adverts were always a lot of fun (better than the actual game imo) :)

Ah yeah, I remember that. The forum looks quite dead though. There's certainly no intention to write anything else for this, not my April for sure as I have Chiptune gigs to prepare for.

Well I did to a track for a fanmade Populous game which never got launched I think -

Hi Tomislav,

Thank you for saying so. The Populous TB was the first time I've tried to write music in a more ambient style, and I've had a lot of positive reaction to it, which is great!

Unfortunately, there isn't really any bonus music for the game. When I left EA, all of the files ended up getting deleted so there was nothing to get, which is a shame, but also a lesson for me in backing up!

I had a quick search and it seems the project is actually still on! Ha, well when you do, let me have a listen :)

Hey - that track was written for a fan inspired 'Populous' which I don't think was ever finished. I was going to write a load more, but the momentum came to a stop.

That's all I'm afraid, nothing more...

The voices were from a sample CD, Voices of Native America I think, then pitched up.

As for inspiration, I knew the soundtrack had to be somewhat ambient, and I simply found it by playing around with the sounds on a Roland JV1080 module - there were plenty of sounds which made me think... yes.... :)

Welcome mate :)

The war drums loops were made up from individual ethnic samples I'm afraid, they weren't originally loops. I had a load of individual drum samples and just played around until I got loops which I think worked.... you can do the same ;)

The MIDI's, or rather Cubase files, for Pop and DK2 don't exist any more. I stupidly didn't take a copy when I left the company, and I believe the hard drives on the music computers were formatted :( I know, I'm an idiot.

It would be rather cool to do something for WFTO if I can find the time. Depends what the developers want really.

Thanks for you kind words :)

I'm afraid it's such a long time ago now, I can't remember the system used to play the tracks. I remember the .sdt files as they were simply the audio files, but the map files which contained the playback events..... well.... ???

Unfortunately I don't have any of the DK2 stuff, and I know the Mac's with that data, and the DAT tapes with the music were thrown away by EA after I left :(

Hey, thanks :)

Chubby is on the tracklist for the new album. It's quite close to the original version, using the original samples for the mostpart, but improving them.. :)

I never knew about Chubby's popularity until about a year ago I guess, as my name was credited wrongly..

Mmmm, well, don't hold your breath. I've not decided what to do with Duke yet. Gotta finish my chiptune album first :)

Hey Alexandr, nice of you to stop by and say those kind words.

A lot of people seem to have enjoyed the Duke Nukem stuff (also a lot of people hated it too), it's just a shame all of the data was lost as the tunes deserve to be re-recorded now I'm more experienced at mixing and mastering. Did you hear the few Duke tunes I remade recently and uploaded to YouTube?

Cool thanks, yep will plod on and work out what to do :)
