Sup Mark,

Just dropping by to see how it's going. What kind of projects are you working with nowadays?

Later,

Garrett

Hey Garrett,

All busy - currently working on Colin McRae's DiRT2, and the Formula One games. All sounding really good - we've got some great engine sounds up and running :)

Awesome! I'm working on the score for a friend of a friend's college film project. I think it's coming along well. :)

Nice one. That should be fun - get a 2nd monitor to make it even more fun, lol ;)

Hey it's me again. I've been working on my music and listening to some great film composers for inspiration. I've got a question... do you recommend Spectrasonics? Also, and I may have asked you this before, but what DAW do you use?

btw, have a listen to my latest song, I think you'll like it: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/252514

The one thing that strikes me is that you're using a lot more dynamics now. Your first song, every instrument had a loud velocity and was constant throughout - this one, you're using velocity much better. Making everything sound more natural. I think you could do a bit more with the guitar though. Make the notes ON the beat a little bit louder than the notes off the beat - it's also a bit loud methinks.

The flute in the background is nice and gives a little more texture to everthing..

I'm really pleased with how you've done the piano though. A few months ago you would have just made each note the same volume and it would have sounded like a computer. This time, it sounds likes a human! Well done :)

Thanks man! I like it too. I wrote a new song today. I didn't pay as much attention to dynamics this time, but I still think it's one of my more creative pieces...

I'd appreciate to know what you think; it's really helpful to hear from a professional!

Professional what though ;)

Sounds really big!!! A big too big as it's very distorted. Hard to tell what's going on when the drums come in. Cool beginning though, very 'epic' methinks. Get the mix sorted out.

You know, the string bass is the hook. If you listen to my Dark Omen soundtrack, it's all built from the string bass playing the hook! ;)

Haha, actually, the "big" ness is totally accidental. I can't seem to keep that out of my work; I do it every time! I guess it's because I listen to so much "big" music (read: Hans Zimmer) that I can't keep it from leaking into what I write.

Dark Omen? I'll be sure to check that out! :)
