Acid bass from Duke Nukem 3D songs
« on: January 30, 2010, 05:56:11 PM »
How do you get this sick acid bass synth sound from Stalker?

It's pretty good. I've made a few acid patches on my synth but I can never get them to sound like this one.

Hey,

It's pretty easy to get this sort of effect.

Firstly, you need a patch with a good low pass filter - pref. a 4 pole or more, 24 db slope. Then add shedloads of resonance. You need to map the filter cutoff to a midi controller so you can control it in real-time (or program it in a sequencer) - you could, for example, map the filter cutoff to a pitchbend wheel.

The next step is to run the patch through a distortion, that gives it the squelchy sound.

Then, play and wobble the pitchbed around :)

That's about it - does that make sense?
Then

That sounds pretty good, thanks for the help.

BTW, do you remember what synth(s) was used for this game? Pretty good soundtrack.

No probs,

Yeah - Korg Trinity Plus, Kurzweil K2500r, Boss DR660 drum machine and an Akai S3000 sampler.

I used a Yamaha 02r desk which I bought 2nd hand for the job as I had to write and mix all the track in 3 months (which became 6 months) - still a bit of a rush which is why a lot of them are bass light imo, hense why I'm redoing them from scratch.
