There's been a while since I heard from you, Mark.  Are there any new updates by any chance? :)

Have to say mark , this is sounding quite good. However , I have some stuff to say.
1. I'm liking how Stalker 2 is sounding , but it seems quite back in time. I was thinking you'd have stuff like a non-synthetic horn ( Or one of these really good sounding synth horns , Heard it on some other songs by other people) at the start , and that the drums don't sound as if they've been EQ'd properly. However, you are the composer so you probably know what you are doing.
2. What program are you using? For the last few years I've been toying around with Reason 4.0 / Record 1.0 , trying to recreate one of your remixes. However I've failed because I can't exactly say I'm a pro at it. My brother is definitely the pro at it though.
3. The songs are sounding great , hope you can create more tracks.

Hiya,

Thanks for the comments.

Although the brass sound isn't right yet, I don't think it calls for an orchestral horn - I've got decent libraries so could try it out though, just in case :)

As for the drums - all of the tracks are very much work in progress. I won't start mixing properly until I think they're close to being finished. As for when that will be, who knows - I've a little more work to do on Cyberspeed as yet ;) (I know, I've been saying that for 2 years - that's family life for you!)

I use (and have done for 21 years now) Cubase, this time V5 on the PC. I never got into the whole Reason thing. I wish I had, but my brain seems to only be able to cope with two music problems Cubase, and Trackers on the Amiga.

Cheers,

m

Hah! But that's life for you.

To be honest I've never really tried cubase , but considering Reason was the really the first music program I ever got my hands on ( Apart from... eugh , dare I say ... eJay?). It actually almost killed me at first but then realised how easy it really is. It's just layed out like a mixing rack , you put instruments in there , add effects , then just put in the notes in the transport.
Compared to a tracker program it's hard , but it's not impossible to learn. However , I may just go and see Cubase for myself.

Thanks for replying!

Forgive me a moment while I gush.

I fell in love with the music for Total Meltdown immediately upon playing the game. Ever since then I've associated it with fond memories, and even went so far as to record all of it to play on other versions of Duke Nukem (predominantly Duke Nukem 64, since it had no in-game music). Your musical style even infulenced my own as I tried to emulate several of your songs from the Total Meltdown soundtrack - namely Mellow Cello and 303. It pleases me to be able to thank you (Mr. Knight) in person for your work on the game, for your inspiration, and to be able to leave you with my thoughts on the subject of this topic.

After listening to your remixes thus far I have to say that I support any efforts you take in making a remix album. I'd happily pay full price for a complete set of remixed songs, since at this point I have emotional stock in them.

Personally I liked the full orchestrated sound in the original Stalker 2, but I'm an avid fan of trance music accompanied by a symphony so I guess that just comes with the territory. I think the fuller sound of an orchestra would add a lot of depth to the synthesized components of the track. Like what you did in your remix of Mellow Cello which, by the way, I think would benefit from a more industrial drum line. When done well industrial drums have a great flow, rhythm and complexity. They also work well for slower, more groove-like tracks (such as Mellow Cello). Just an idea I suppose.

Anyway I think I've said enough for one post. I look forward to your reply. :3

Hey - thanks for the kind words :)

Yeah, I could go more orchestrated this time around. I have a decent orchestral library for that sort of thing, but I really want to simply get the tracks sounding how they would have sounded back then if I'd had more equipment, and more mix experience.

As for industrial drums - not something I've ever had experience in doing, or even listening too. Got a few FLA albums, but not listened for a looooong time. Could give it a go though... :)

Cheers for now,

m
