Epic themes are my fav. too! :) Don't forget to try and randomise the timing a little too... can work very well.

Man that's frustrating- I had an awesome melody in my head but for some reason I couldn't get it to sound right in FL.  :(

Leave it for a while, record what you have as an mp3 so you can listen to it.. and go back to it in a couple of weeks/months! I've got over 100 of those sorts of mp3s on my hard drive, just waiting for me to finish them! :)

Good idea. Right now I'm kind of writing the song around other melodies that came through better.

I'm writing a song about a storm.  ;D

Also, I think I'm going to go into sound design, since a technical job is easier to get these days. Then I can use that to network and gain ground with my music.

That's not a bad idea mate. You'll start recognising sounds from various libraries once you start paying attention to the sound design in films/TV etc.

Remember though, sound design is a creative job too, but can also be technical. I'm more of a techical sound designer than a creative one, and luckily I work on car games where that tends to be more important.

I'm definitely more on the creative side, and I kind of view sound design as an interest while I view music as a passion. But I'd be more than happy to do something I'm interested in until I can do what I'm passionate about.

My song is nearly finished; I've been working on it on and off for a few weeks. I'm proud of this one. :)

Hey ho - So Storm.. Starts off nicely, but you've got that robot feel on the piano still, it sounds too mechanical. You need to randomise the velocity and timing a bit more, make it sound like someone's really playing it.

You've got a bit of a Psycho sound in the strings there ;)

That percussion you've got going, I can hear bouncing around the stereo image a bit more ?

Siren works well.

And are we moving into Jazz at the end???

--------

New tune is rather scarey :) Again, the percussion needs a bit of humanising, and can hear it moving around the stereo image a bit.

The 4 to the floor rhythm works well, not something I would have thought off.

I can see this as some kind of evil monster chasing the helpless women kind of scene!!! Nice one.

I don't really know how to randomize the timing... I can change the velocity though. LOL, I wasn't intentionally moving into jazz, but now that I think about it I think I might have.

Thanks Mark!

Quick question Mark: What do you mean by moving the stereo image around?

Hey - Currently the percussion sounds a bit dead centre, and mono. Would be good to have some of the different instruments panned left and right a little.

Oh! You mean panning the instruments to the left and right speakers? Interesting, I hadn't thought of that. I'll try it.

Do you mind if I mention you in a scholarship application? :)

Of course you can mention me in a scholarship application - sorry it's taken so long to reply :(

The pannings working, as are the changes to the velocity - it does make the track sound a lot less robotic. I can see that you've finished with this track now, so I won't say anymore... but it's a big improvement over the original.

Well done :)
